Your People

This song, my first attempt at worship music, came to me in a dream in the summer of 1996--just after graduating school.  I awoke hearing the verse distinctly sung by a congregation.  It reflects my deepening understanding of and burden for the Church.

Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?

2 Cor 11:28-29

...and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Matt 16:18-19

...God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
1 Tim 3:15-16

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.  The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
Rom 8:18-21

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
1 John 3:2-3

Lyrics:

We long for our lives to bring you glory
Reflecting your grace
Living your love
Lift up our eyes to the Heavens
Far above the world
Far beyond today

Remind us that we are your people
for whom Creation shall rejoice
Help us remove the things that blind us
Then we will praise you with one voice

Jesus, we turn our eyes upon you
Hear our appeal
Make our faith real
Send us in power to the nations
They'll know by our love
we're sent from above
